about
In honor of this spooky month, we're releasing our most ghastly song to date: "Tanninim" -- the perfect soundtrack to your October!
Tanninim’s dancey rhythm and spooky vibe makes it sound like a dance party scene in a 50’s Sci-fi horror movie, complete with a theremin, ghoulish singers, and Michael Jackson/Freddie Mercury “We Will Rock You” styled lead vocal.
Keeping with Rusty Shipp’s Nautical Rock ‘n’ Roll theme, “Tanninim” is an ancient Hebrew word for “large sea monsters,” which provokes the listener’s imagination about what could be down there at the bottom of the sea, yet to be discovered, while creating a thick, sonic atmosphere of mystery and excitement. The single is a part of the upcoming, full-length, concept album “Dark Side of the Ocean,” which will be released on Bandcamp on 10/28!
lyrics
LYRICS:
You got, more day than night, more light than dark, you got
More sun than moon, but more space than stars, you've got to
See each piece must play its part, it's part of
Harmony and part of our heart, you've got to
See each major has a minor counterpart
Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater
Every father has a mother who has a father
Holds the whole universe together, you've got to
Let the darkness come, so the day can rest in peace
Nocturnal things come dance to minor harmonies
O Tanninim arise, from where you once did slumber
Give glory to the LORD, where man has left uncovered
You got tanninim and cherubim gonna whet your
Appetite for jaws that bite and claws that catch you
Kraken and Leviathan are sunken treasure
Howls at night and Bloop sound bites will let you
Know there's things we've never seen and never get to
Undisturbed for thousands of years the creatures
Didn't need Adam's name to give Him pleasure
Always do, what they were made to, you better
Let the darkness come, so the day can rest in peace
Nocturnal things come dance to minor harmonies
O Tanninim arise, from where you once did slumber
Give glory to the LORD, where man has left uncovered
Let the darkness come, so the day can rest in peace
Nocturnal things come dance to minor harmonies
O Tanninim arise, from where you once did slumber
Give glory to the LORD, where man has left uncovered

Named after the frontman Russ T. Shipp, the band has created a sound known as Nautical Rock ‘n’ Roll. Characterized by its
dark, underwater atmosphere, haunting vocals, and unconventional riffs, the music is a perfect fusion of grunge and surf rock, though it is most memorable for the Beatlesque hooks in every single song.
Combining wry, cutting lyrics and whimsical arrangements, the Canadian art-rockers' latest is a tilt-a-whirl of a breakup album. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 14, 2019
Oakland artist Kevin Nichols blends his love of pop melodies and Nirvana guitar tones on this first single from an upcoming full-length. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 8, 2021
